With no formal design credentials, Jayanthi is crafting proof that anyone can have a go at all kinds of making.  She loves ingenious uses of everyday materials to create modern designs.  As a mental health campaigner, she is evangelical about the benefits of crafting socially.

“Coming from pre-industrialised Malaysia, my mother inspires me.  Her philosophy has always been to ask: why buy something when you can make it yourself out of coat hangers, an old duvet cover and an upholstery gun.  My mother remains the voice in my head saying “you could make a better one yourself”.  Innovative uses of everyday items on Pinterest feeds this viewpoint.  I am also encouraged and enlivened by tiny acts of bravery and rebellion with people calling out injustice and nonsense on the tube, in the workplace and other aspects of everyday life (like mini craftivist posters against discrimination).”
